Educational Background I graduated with a Master in International Economics from Maastricht University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in August 2005, completing the track Human Resources, Labour Markets and Society. During this study I have done an Erasmus exchange semester at the Warsaw School of Economics. The topic of my final thesis has been “Eradicating poverty in India with the Millennium Development Goals: Primary education for all or only for some Guajarati?” This thesis was partly based on an AIESEC development internship that I have done with the NGO Sneh Prayas in Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat. Since September 2006 I am a research fellow in the PhD programme on European Social Protection Policy (ESPP) at the Maastricht University, Graduate School of Governance. In the first year I have attended an extensive course programme on various social protection research aspects, given to us by professors from various European universities of the school's international network. Later I have done research visits to the Institute for Social & Economic Research at Essex University/UK and the Department of Economics, Business and Statistics at the University of Milan/Italy. At the end of the year 2009 I will be visiting AKF, a Danish governmental research centre, in Copenhagen.
I am interested in labour and education economic as well as social policy research topics. Within my PhD research I am looking into the evaluation of various Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) arrangements that shall stimulate child development at the important period of early childhood. I look at both the duration of the experienced stimuli as well as their quality. In my studies of short and long-term development outcomes I am looking into how those outcomes are distributed across children from different family backgrounds. Outcomes are measured within cognitive, non-cognitive and socio-emotional development domains. In cooperation with the Sjoans Research Centre for Opportunities in Education based at Maastricht University, I am involved in data collection which entirely covers three consecutive cohorts of children at all primary schools in the Southern region of the Dutch province of Limburg. With my research I want to facilitate the identification of best strategies that policymakers can choose to provide equal educational opportunities through ECCE and family policies.
